More isn't better. Better is better.
Thread count is the number of threads per square inch — but it only matters when paired with high-quality, long-staple yarn. Above 400, additional threads are usually multi-ply marketing. Vivano sheets are 400-thread-count, single-ply, long-staple cotton — the same specification you'll find in the finest hotels.
